ZZ Top’s First Album is the first studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top. It was produced by manager Bill Ham, and was released on January 16, 1971, on London Records. Establishing their attitude and humor, ZZ Top incorporated boogie, hard rock, heavy metal and Southern rock influences into their sound. Thematically, the album is lively, playful and at times brash, filled with the band’s personal experiences and sexual innuendos that became central to the group’s image. ZZ Top began recording the album at Robin Hood Studios in Tyler, Texas.
In 1987, this album was remixed for CD release. In 2013, the original vinyl mix was released on HD Tracks in high-resolution digital download formats.[1] The original mix of the album was released on CD in June 2013 as part of the box set The Complete Studio Albums (1970-1990).[2]
Wow man, I was only 1 gotta say the end of bedroom thang is unbelievable very heavy that downward chord change at the end is so nice. Had no idea. Been binging for Dusty all day since Michael Berry Show. Can’t get off the first album though timeless. Thanks we all appreciate y’all our lives our better for it.
I bought this album at a yard sale in Hitchcock TX in the 80s. I can’t find a a copyright or date on it anywhere, just wondered if that was normal or not. Great album.
Hello Mr Gibbons ! …. First, hey, I’m a fan, so please pardon my approach 🙂 …. I’m 57, born in 1965… born & raised in Perry MI. It’s a speck, but I love it, I raised my 3 sons here ❤️…. My folks?; not big fans of modern music. They allowed me to listen to their old stuff, or maybe some “Pop radio”. That was it. No Blues. No “hard” rock. None. I was fully UNaware of eithers existence…. Then, in 1981, by chance, I heard about 30 seconds of ‘Tube Snake Boogie’ (somehow). I knew I had to hear more of that, so I spent some of my lawn mowing money on El Loco(LP). Man, that was a wise use of $5 🙂 … around that time our high school had “Music Theme week”, & one of the days was “Punk Rock” day, another genre I knew nothing about LOL! That day, a kid, Kyle King, why I remember that kid I have no idea. But Kyle, he wore an intentionally torn & ripped shirt. He wrote the names & Logos of several “Punk” bands on it. Among the other bands, “ZZ Top” was written across his shoulder. Having listened to El Loco about 50 times by then, I stopped Kyle & said “Kyle, I don’t think you know anything about ZZ Top. Because whatever they are, they definitely ain’t ‘Punk’”. He was embarrassed. I prolly should have kept my mouth shut. But man, he needed to know LOL! … then of course a couple years later Eliminator took the country by storm! I dont need to tell U about that man 🙂 …. In about 2014, I was at a (high school) graduation party, at the home of a kid my middle son had graduated with. One of the other dads, Mick Nemeth, he knew I was “into music”, so he shows me his cell phone. It’s a picture of him & you, Billy Freaking Gibbons, seated side-by-side at a bar in/near LA, enjoying a drink & some conversation(!). My eyes got real big & I said “you know Billy Gibbons?!!!”. He laughed & explained that he was in LA visiting his daughter. They were out to eat at a local establishment & he saw you (!) sitting alone at the bar. So he sidled up to you & anyway he said you were very gracious & friendly 🙂 …. In the summer of 2019 I got tickets for my wife & I to see John Fogarty, Willie Nelson, & ZZ Top, at the Soaring Eagle in Mt Pleasant MI. And I need to say right here, what a line-up !!! Holy cow I was excited man 🙂 …. Willie was great! John Fogarty was OUTSTANDING that night. And then ZZ came onstage(!), and we proceeded to hear 3 of your songs, when a situation that had been stewing all night, erupted. The guy had been giving me a hard time all night, because he didn’t like my bucket hat. Dude, this was my “concert bucket hat”, and I wasn’t gonna take it off. During your 3rd number, the guy reaches over & attempted to take that hat off my head. He was headed to the exit, and thought it would be good to throw my hat into the crowd. Well, my wife Kim, who up to that point had been saying stuff like “settle down honey, just ignore him, etc…”, but when she saw that guy try & take that hat off my head, peace loving Kim said to me, as she watched the guy head up the aisle with his wife, “You can’t stand for that Bobby”. That was all I needed to hear & the chase was on ! Well, yeah we got ejected from the venue is how that turned out Billy LOL ! …. Summer 2022’, and I had still never seen ZZ in concert(!). So we got tickets for your July show at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheater. I wore my “Gibbons” Tshirt, and we listened to Rhythmeen on the drive to the show ! 🙂 …. Man, I got a lot more to say, but I got sidetracked by some fun (for me LOL) little stories, sorry dude….. hey I read an interview you did, it must have been from around the time you released “Big Bad Blues”, and in it you tell stories about BB King, Bo Diddley, Jimmie Vauhghn, and others. How BB told you about the joys of thinner lighter strings, how Bo had gifted that guitar to you, how you acquired Pearly Gates, etc …. Dude, please write a book about your life. I think it would be outstanding. That’s why I decided to send you this email. I’m talking about a full-on Biography, from the start, up through now/today. Please (!)…. Keep on Rocking Billy. I love your stuff man …. Bobby DePew, proud to be a Billy Gibbons fan… Perry Michigan…. PS; ever though of doing a record with Steve Cropper ?
