What are these “Pinchos” things…?

We had to ask after a BFG fan posted this early evening portrait captured on a street in Madrid. Well, we searched high and low until we resorted to buying our plane ticket to Spain to chase down the meaning of this elusive word.

Okay, back to the question: What is a “pincho”…?

The word translates from Spanish for the word “spikes”… and, most Spaniards would call for a “pincho” rather than use the lengthy phrase, “grilled meat on a stick”. One might go as far to say, it is grilled meat on a spike – no veggies required…! With any luck, one might select one of many different kinds of meats like, shrimp, cod, chicken, pork, even shark…! “Pinchos” are generally topped with a generous amount of a very tasty, special Spanish sauce. And,”pinchos are correctly served, by most food-loving devotees, over a slice of bread. Bread, as one can readily imagine, soaks up handily, that tasty sauce.

We made few excuses for our journey to Spain even though we had an idea of what “pinchos” were… the best answer we found was, “Anything with food on a stick”. That wins…!

Dig in…!
